Want to be a top-notch project manager? Here’s the secret sauce…

I was chatting with Michael Carmen, Senior Project Manager at Kyndryl, the other day, and he shared some gold about how important it is for project managers to break out of their bubble and really get involved with the whole business. It’s easy to get stuck in our project management world, but how often do we actually look up and see what’s happening around us?

Apparently, 85% of the best project managers build relationships with people in other teams to make a real difference to the organisation. That little nugget really got me thinking!

So, here’s the takeaway for all my fellow project managers:

➡️ Be Curious: Chat with people from different departments, ask heaps of questions and learn something new.

➡️ Get the Lowdown: Find out what other teams are up to. It’ll help you make sure your projects actually support what they’re doing.

➡️ Focus on the Big Picture: Understand the company’s overall goals so you can make sure your projects are helping to achieve them.

➡️ Network with Everyone: Don’t just hang out with other project managers! The more people you connect with, the more you’ll learn and the more influence you’ll have.

The best way to grow is to step outside your comfort zone and see things from a different perspective. The more we connect with others, the more we can achieve.

Don’t forget to share this with your project management mates and inspire them to think bigger! And give me a follow on Linkedin for more tips and tricks!
