Managing the Challenges of an Agile HR Strategy

Many companies are turning to Agile ways of working. Human Resource Leaders have an important role to ensure this transformation change is successful.

I really enjoyed a discussion this morning for the Hacking HR 2022 Global Conference on: Managing the Challenges of An Agile HR Strategy.

The discussion was wonderfully facilitated by Minola Jac. I loved the conversation with Alex Smith, Wayne Tarken and Kerry Brown. So much hashtag#energy, hashtag#joy and hashtag#inspiration. ‘

Kerry Brown shared she is a focused person on the future, work and transformation, and people. Her most recent role was leading transformation future work globally, for SAP.

Alex Smith is the chief HR officer for the City of Memphis. The City of Memphis as an employer has around 8,300 employees two-thirds of, which are police and fire. As the head of HR, her focus is leading a team of over a hundred HR professionals that focus on serving those who serve others.

Wayne Tarken is an Agile Business Coach. He is helping non-IT, HR leaders take the mystery out of agile and leverage it’s capabilities to improve speed, adaptability, service and performance. As Wayne noted, agile is something that if you didn’t understand it, we’ve all been living through it, the last two years, we’re all super agile.

All panelist brought to the conversation their practical lived experience on Agile HR.

Some of the things we discussed were the importance of purpose, values, feedback, flexibility, flat organisations, and empowered decision making centered around the customer. It is really critical to focus on the service and bringing value to organisation, mindset change that we shift from jobs to roles to customer focus to experimentation. Also, be curious and look into it and try it, and get started. And then be kind, you’ll make mistakes and others will around you as well. So be kind to yourself, be kind to others.
